Converted Organics Inc. Receives Class C Recycling Permit From New Jersey Department Of Environmental Protection
Boston, MA - Converted Organics Inc. recently announced that it has received a Class C Recycling Permit from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. Converted Organics will participate in a formal ceremony at the Trenton War Memorial marking the first 20 years of New Jersey's recycling program. The event will highlight the announcement of new recycling initiatives and partnerships. Commissioner Lisa P. Jackson will provide remarks, which will be followed by roundtable sessions offering attendees the opportunity to meet with experts in the recycling field, including management of Converted Organics.
Edward J. Gildea, President and CEO of Converted Organics Inc., said, "This permit is a crucial step in making our Woodbridge facility a viable recycling resource for the area. We can now move forward in the construction and operation of our plant.
"At full capacity, our plant will recycle 500 tons of food waste a day and convert it into valuable organic fertilizer. The facility will derive revenue from tipping fees normally collected by landfills and from sales of the fertilizer we produce. The plant will generate local jobs, extend the life of landfills through diversion and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
"Converted Organics is pleased to bring this technology to New Jersey, putting the State at the vanguard of food-waste recycling. We are also excited about the prospect of producing a high-quality product, in New Jersey, that has been shown to increase economic yield for farmers by 11-16% while reducing the potential for nitrogen runoff. The fertilizer has been demonstrated to suppress disease, thereby reducing or eliminating the need for fungicides and other crop protection supplements."
