Case Study: Sahara Desert
In January 2007, the Desert Migration Project, encompassing a team of 25 geological and archaeological experts from Britain's leading universities embarked on a five week expedition to the heart of the Sahara desert in search of man's evolutionary past.
The team's mission was to record a now inhospitable region of the Sahara, to map the environmental changes in the landscape over an incredible 750,000 years.
The expedition team selected the state-of-the-art GoBook XR-1 fully ruggedised notebook from General Dynamics. Incredibly tough, yet compact and lightweight, the GoBook XR-1 gave the team the flexibility in some of the most extreme conditions on the planet to analyse satellite images, store data and maintain communications.
