The Foam module from Vibro-Acoustic Sciences allows you to extend AutoSEA2's functionality by enabling analytical modeling of a general class of poro-elastic, layered materials, including the full range of structural-acoustic foams commonly used for noise control applications.

AutoSEA2 includes an analytical modeler for fibrous acoustic materials, but foam materials and fiber materials behave quite differently. The difference is due to the significant fluid-structure interaction in partially-reticulated (partially-open cell) foams compared with fiber materials. The fiber modeler assumes only a longitudinal acoustic wave in the acoustic material. The Foam module uses full Biot theory to correctly model the acoustic wave, as well as longitudinal and shear waves in the solid material, or structural "frame" of the foam.
