FTI's IDAPS for CAIV (Integrated Desktop Analysis and Planning System for Cost as an Independent Variable, I-CAIV) is a process and automated PC-based tool that has been successfully used in a number of DoD studies to perform a structured comparative evaluation of a wide range of architectures, systems, and technologies.

The overall process embodies sound engineering principles to establish a framework that provides senior decision-makers with sufficient data to make informed decisions regarding the acquisition of systems, development of technology investment strategies, and the assessment of alternative architectures / systems / technologies. This includes both military utility and cost as principal measures in a "CAIV" perspective. This can also include military utility, risk and cost as principal measures in a "Cost and Risk as Independent Variables (CRAIV)" perspective.

The I-CAIV framework also supports establishing a permanent, readily accessible corporate knowledge base. The following represents our AoA (Analysis of Alternatives) vs. Current Capability full-up 6-"phase" I-CAIV representation.
