ATK Receives $22M Contract From U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory
Minneapolis, MN - Alliant Techsystems (ATK), an advanced weapon and space systems company, has received a five-year, $22M contract from the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) to develop automated composite technologies designed to reduce manufacturing costs, and increase the performance of large composite launch vehicle structures.
Work on the Large Automated Production of Expendable Launch Structures (LAPELS) contract will be performed at ATK facilities in Clearfield, UT and Iuka, MS. According to ATK, there are 17 specific initiatives in the LAPELS program including: low cost tooling, filament winding techniques, integrated health monitoring, thermal protection systems, and tape lamination.
