Carahsoft Awarded U.S. DoD Enterprise Software Initiative Contract For Open Source Solutions

Reston, VA - Carahsoft Technology Corp., the trusted government IT solutions provider, recently announced that it has been awarded a U.S. Department of Defense ESI Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) for Open Source Solutions. The contract encompasses software and support services from Red Hat, JBoss, Alfresco, Pentaho, MySQL, and CollabNet.

"This BPA is significant on several levels, as it affirms open source as an enterprise-ready alternative to proprietary software," explained Paul Smith, vice president of government operations at Red Hat. "The BPA offers DoD customers access to a broad base of industry leading open source solutions, enabling agencies to not only cut cost out of their operations, but improve their services at the same time."

Through the five-year contract, Carahsoft and its authorized reseller partners will provide the DoD with open source technologies ranging from operating systems, middleware, and database technologies, to collaboration, content management, and business intelligence software.

"We are pleased to have been awarded this ESI BPA," said Craig P. Abod, president of Carahsoft, which serves as the Master Government Aggregator for numerous best-of-breed open source vendors. "As the Department of Defense continues to expand its implementation of open source technologies, this BPA will make it easier than ever to procure the stable, scalable, secure and extremely cost-effective software they need to achieve their missions."

"CollabNet and Carahsoft recently partnered to deliver the CollabNet SourceForge Enterprise application lifecycle management platform to the Department of Defense as a key component of their Forge.mil initiative," said Bill Portelli, president and chief executive officer, CollabNet. "We congratulate Carahsoft on winning this important contract. The Open Source Solutions BPA will now make it even easier for Carahsoft to deliver CollabNet-powered solutions to the Department of Defense."

The contract serves all DoD components and is effective through February 9, 2014. For more information, visit Carahsoft Open Source BPA.
