ESP Serial Hubs
The Ethernet Serial Provider allows you to place serial COM ports anywhere on a local or remote LAN segment. The ESP units communicate with an Equinox SuperSerial driver located on a Windows NT or SCO OpenServer system.
With the ESP, server-based applications have direct access to network-based serial devices -- as if they were locally attached. Custom software is not required. The ESP units and the LAN are "transparent."
SCO Unixware and Linux support will be available in the near future. Call for details.
Benefits & Features
- Add standard serial COM ports to your Windows NT or SCO systems on any local or remote LAN
- Connect additional serial ports and new devices in minutes "on the fly;" no need to open your server or to interrupt operations
- Available in eight or sixteen port versions RJ45 port connections
- Multiple servers can address ports on an ESP: Use for redundancy, load sharing or for addressing application specific servers
- Attach Windows NT and SCO systems to the same ESP
- 10BaseT cabling provides connection to serial devices that are hundreds of feet from the host
- 15,000 volt surge protection on every pin of every port means virtually no interruptions from blown ports
- Easily monitor all ESP ports on your network using EquiView Plus
- Compact lightweight chassis: 8"L, 1.75"H, 8.75"W
Performance: The SuperSerial intelligence in the ESP units provides the same high performance data throughput that users enjoy with direct, bus-attached Equinox SuperSerial units.
Easy Set-Up and Installation: First, you don't have to open or even interrupt the server to add or swap out ESP units. Simply attach the ESP to twisted-pair Ethernet and load the device driver on the NT server. The ESP Installation Wizard locates and configures the newly attached ESP, giving you full control of COM port assignments.
Ports on the ESP can be assigned to different hosts. IP addresses can be assigned using the Equinox installation program or by using the BOOTP protocol. Each ESP has an internal universal power supply eliminating the need for bulky external "bricks". A Wall Mount Kit is supplied with each ESP, and an optional Rack Mount Shelf is also available.
Reliability: Surge protection is on every pin of every port. ESP configuration data is stored in Flash Memory for instant recovery from "brownouts" or power outages. Each unit uses Equinox-exclusive SuperSerial ASIC's, proven the world over as the most reliable serial I/O technology in the industry. ESP's have a five-year warranty.
Diagnostics and Management: Ethernet Serial Providers are fully supported with the unique EquiView Plus software from Equinox. Fully SNMP capable, you can use EquiView Plus to monitor and diagnose problems with any port the network. Trouble-shoot any port in any location, either directly from the server or from home or on the road via your laptop computer. Off-line diagnostics include internal and external loop-back tests.
Equinox's Ethernet Serial Provider Makes POS A Snap! Strung out by cabling requirements? Let the Ethernet Serial Provider (ESP) ease your burden.
Install serial ports at the point of need without opening your Windows NT or SCO server. As a net-attached hub, the ESP provides a range of cabling options and freedom that make even your toughest jobs a snap.
Each ESP provides eight or sixteen serial ports to an IP-based 10BaseT segment. Simply attach the ESP to a local or remote LAN segment and invoke the install wizard to locate and configure it. The ESP provides server-based POS applications with seamless access to widely distributed serial devices - as if they were locally attached. No software customization is required; the ESP shields existing applications from any changes.
