Global Safety Labs Acquires Fire Protection Products To Be Tested By Military
Tulsa, OK - Global Safety Labs, Inc., a Tulsa-based safety products development and manufacturing company, announced recently that it completed its first phase of a planned two-part acquisition of fuel and fire safety products aimed at the Military, Automotive, Boating and Aircraft industries.
The purchase included Patents and Intellectual Property of Safety Strategies, Inc. of State College, Pennsylvania. The systems deploy a proprietary fire and heat shielding liquid called "ARCTIC FIRE-FREEZE" ("AFF™").
"This acquisition brings exciting technologies to GSL which have applications, literally, around the globe," said Michael H. Freeman, GSL's CEO. "We expect to complete the currently awarded military testing contracts and finalize contract negotiations for the AFF Protection Systems in vehicles used in Iraq," Mr. Freeman said.
More than 400 Systems have been deployed in the Steel Industry, where "Slag Pot Carrier" operators are exposed to molten slag accidents. The AFF Systems are credited with six "Life Saves" by that Industry. Heckett-Multiserv Safety Director, William Hohman, Jr., touts AFF stating it: "…protects clothing from catching on fire …and … importantly, when you have a person inside that clothing - stops the transfer of heat to skin."
The AFF Vehicle and Personal Protection Systems also recently caught the attention of the U.S. Military because of the product's unique ability to shield human skin, equipment and clothing from direct exposure to fire, heat and flame.
In December 2006, the U.S. Air Force "Battlelabs" awarded two research contracts for the AFF Fire Suppression/Protection technology. Force Protection Battlelab, as it is also known, was created after the 1996 Khobar Towers blast in Saudi Arabia and, in a 1/12/07 AP release, is touted as helping "the Air Force stay one step ahead of the terrorist threat." Since its creation, Battlelabs has studied nearly 200 products. Also in the 1/12/07 AP release, Battlelabs announced its plans to test AFF, stating it: "appears promising in preventing burns." The AFF was also tested in Dubai, by Kellogg Brown & Root for application in vehicles in the Iraqi Theater. "Global Safety Labs intends to rapidly advance pre-acquisition contract negotiations with KBR, for installation in vehicles deployed in Iraq," Mr. Freeman said.
