IDS Scheer Officially Unveils New ARIS Defense Solution

Orlando, FL - IDS Scheer announced the official availability of its ARIS Defense Solution, a mission-critical BPM tool that enables public sector and defense organizations to optimize enterprise architecture management based on the DoDAF (Department of Defense Architecture Framework), NAF (NATO Architecture Framework), and C4ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance). The company will showcase this solution at ProcessWorld '06 Europe in Amsterdam from May 17-19, 2006 and use this as an opportunity to highlight its defense market BPM expertise for many NATO countries.

Following the completion of successful projects with the US Army and US Navy in collaboration with Eii, its longtime partner and a provider of enterprise integration consulting and solutions, several agencies and services within the US Department of Defense (DoD) are using the ARIS Defense Solution as the basis for the development of DoDAF-based enterprise architectures. DoDAF defines the general DoD approach to architecture design, development, presentation and integration.

"Similar to other organizations, armed forces agencies must also provide optimum support for their complex business processes by implementing information systems that help operations run smoothly, especially under the adverse conditions of combat in many regions of the world," said Dr. Mathias Kirchmer, CEO of IDS Scheer for the Americas. "Enterprise architectures have emerged as the primary BPM weapon for documenting and analyzing these complex environments." According to Dr. Kirchmer, using selected DoDAF methods and a number of ARIS Platform solutions, the ARIS Defense Solution combines the standardization that is demanded by these agencies with the necessary flexibility.

Fully integrated into the ARIS Platform, the ARIS Defense Solution allows users to manage all the components of their organizational architecture in a central repository, thus laying the foundation for successful process management. ARIS uses an object-based approach that enables the reuse of individual architecture elements across all views and products from the DoDAF architecture.

"Our goal is to translate the success of the ARIS Defense Solution as the standard of business process excellence for the defense architectures of the US Army and US Navy and help position it as a viable tool for all NATO countries," added Kirchmer.

Based on the success of these implementations, IDS Scheer has just formed an ARIS Defense & Security Process Excellence Group to provide international process management experts and ARIS users from the Defense & Security sector with the opportunity to define their requirements and share their experiences. The goal of ARIS Defense & Security Process Excellence Group (ADASPE) is the creation of an exclusive network for international process management experts in the Defense & Security sector. It will deal with topics such as best practice in the design, implementation and management of business processes. Regular meetings will be held to discuss existing solutions, exchange details of practical experience at an international level and provide the motivation for specific developments.

"We are working in tandem with IDS Scheer to develop enterprise architecture solutions for customers such as the US Army, US Transcom and the US Navy," said Tom Gulledge, Eii President. "As a long-standing partner of IDS Scheer, we welcome this initiative and its efforts to provide customers and partners with an international platform for defense process excellence."
