Iteris Wins $900,000 Intelligent Transportation Systems Design Contract In Las Vegas

Santa Ana, CA - Iteris, Inc., a leader in the traffic management market that focuses on the application and development of advanced technologies, recently announced it has been awarded a contract valued at over $900,000 to provide all of the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) design services for the North Corridor Constructors (NCC) and I-15 Design-Build project in Las Vegas, Nevada.

"Iteris is proud to partner with Nevada Department of Transportation and NCC on such a historic project that will have a major impact on how public works projects are undertaken in the future," said Abbas Mohaddes, president and chief executive officer for Iteris. "Our demonstrated ITS design experience and depth of resources will help our partners efficiently achieve their shared goals in a cost-effective manner."

This design-build project involves widening an approximately 5.5-mile stretch of the I-15 freeway between the US-95 (Spaghetti Bowl) and Craig Road in Las Vegas by up to 10 lanes, reconfiguring an interchange, replacing bridges, building auxiliary lanes between interchanges to facilitate merging, implementing ITS components as well as traffic signal and lighting improvements.

According to a Las Vegas Review Journal article published in late 2007, Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons was quoted as saying "he promised Nevadans when he took office that he would make widening I-15 a priority." He added that "the Legislature agreed on the project's importance; and Southern Nevadans will get traffic relief up to two years faster, thanks to the design-build concept."

Iteris is responsible for the ITS improvements which include a Communications System, Dynamic Message Signs, CCTV Surveillance Cameras, Traffic Monitoring Sensors, Ramp Meters, Trailblazer Signs and Systems Integration and Testing. The entire project is expected to be completed in 2010.

This I-15 design-build project continues Iteris' success in providing ITS design services on design-build projects across the U.S. Recently, Iteris was awarded a contract to provide ITS design services on the I-35W Design-Build Bridge Replacement in Minnesota.
