New Dial-up Modem Standard

ZOOM Telephonics, Inc.m/Modem V.92 standard and its companion V.44 compression standard are designed to increase the speed of Web browsing, file uploads, and connect times. The dial-up modems are available in two models—External model 3049 and PCI internal model 3025.

The modem offers a new QuickConnect feature, which recognizes that many users dial the same number and use the same phone line when they access Internet. The feature stores these settings used to connect to an ISP so that they can be quickly reused and not negotiated every time a connection is made, which can significantly reduce call setup time.

The modem also offers an increased maximum upload speed for V.92 modems of 48,000 bps (V.90 speed is 33,600 bps), enabling quicker upload of games, files and email. In addition, the V.44 compression can speed up Web browsing and other data transfers.

In addition, a new Modem-on-hold feature lets users receive a voice call while online, put the online session on hold during the voice call, and then resume the online session. This feature frees up the modem's phone line for incoming calls, which is important in homes with only one phone line. This feature requires call waiting and compatible Internet service.
