Power quality is a major concern in the processing and manufacturing industries, driven by the need to protect sensitive electronic equipment and mitigate the effects on nonlinear loads. Maxwell is leveraging its extensive expertise in the areas of high power electronics and energy storage to provide power quality systems solutions.

The Power Electronics Systems group and Maxwell's Energy Products subsidiary have jointly developed a power quality system for PacificCorp. The voltage compensator unit incorporates Energy Products' PowerCache ultracapacitor technology and is designed to deliver regulated output power of up to 5kW for thirty seconds. The device in intended for application as a short term backup power supply in utility substations or telecommunication installations.
