To address the problems associated with sampling and recontainerizing or treating the contents of large containers, such as one-ton cylinders, ERC developed the Large Cylinder Transfer Unit (LCTU).
To address the problems associated with sampling and recontainerizing or treating the contents of large containers, such as one-ton cylinders, ERC developed the Large Cylinder Transfer Unit (LCTU). The LCTU, like other ERC cylinder management systems, provides multiple levels of containment, remote operations, and an emergency treatment capability.
The effectiveness of the LCTU, also a mobile unit, was demonstrated during its first deployment -- a project at the Tooele Army Depot where the contents of a one-ton container of phosgene was transferred into new cylinders for recycling.
