Water Tunnel Model 2436

The Eidetics Flow Visualization Water Tunnel Model 2436 is a closed system facility suitable for studying a wide range of aerodynamic and fluid dynamic phenomena. The key features of the tunnel are high flow quality and horizontal orientation. The horizontal configuration facilitates model access, enables models to be readily changed without draining water from the tunnel, and provides for visualization of the flow axially from the downstream transverse window. The tunnel is operated as a continuous flow channel, negating the need for a sealed cover and providing model access while the tunnel is running. The entire circuit is constructed of non-corrosive materials supported by a painted structural steel framework. The primary components are constructed of reinforced polyurethane resin impregnated fiberglass. The interior surfaces are formed against a high gloss mold surface for an exceptionally smooth surface. The exterior surfaces are composed of colored gel coat epoxy resin sprayed over chopped fiberglass and requires no painting.

The 24 inch wide by 36 inch high by 72 inch long test section is surrounded on two sides and the bottom by tempered glass to allow simultaneous viewing. Axial viewing is provided by the downstream window. The tunnel centerline is located approximately at eye level to facilitate testing. The open area beneath the test section provides ample room for photographic or video recording equipment, including light fixtures.

Combined with the model support system and the 5 component balance system, the water tunnel is a unique and valuable tool used for the study of aerodynamic and fluid dynamic phenomena.
